Focus Areas

The area of Elk Grove that I will represent faces unique challenges and there are other challenges that affect the entire district.  These are some of the key issues I will focus on as your trustee:

Libraries

School libraries are often the only source of books and electronic resources for many students. Unfortunately, these libraries are currently understaffed according to the School Library Program Standards set by the California Department of Education. The 15 hours per week funded by the District’s General Fund is insufficient to teach students essential digital literacy skills, including understanding cyberbullying, evaluating the credibility of sources, and protecting their digital footprint. Additional hours funded by Title 1 or school PTAs create equity issues. I will work to increase funding, training, and oversight to ensure all students have equal access to these vital resources.

Facility Equity

It is crucial that we have accessible facilities and resources available districtwide, ensuring all students have a strong sense of community and an equitable educational experience. I am committed to advocating for facility improvements and ensuring all students, regardless of their school, have access to the resources they need to succeed.

Overcrowding in schools

Area 6 is experiencing a housing boom, leading to an increase in student population and the need for more schools. A new elementary school is planned for the 2025-2026 school year, and I will ensure the District stays on track with this project. My goal is to keep students at their neighborhood schools as much as possible, minimizing disruption and fostering community ties.

College and Career Readiness

I am dedicated to supporting students in making informed choices about their futures, whether that means pursuing CTE classes leading directly to careers or continuing their education at 2- or 4-year colleges. I advocate for the expansion of Dual Enrollment programs at all high schools, providing students with more opportunities to earn college credits while still in high school.

Improving the Educational Experience

I will work to offer workshops and community events that help parents, grandparents, and guardians support students in maximizing their educational experiences. Additionally, I aim to provide more training opportunities for parents, students, and staff on issues of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Continuing to offer social and emotional support to our community is essential as we recover from the negative impacts of the pandemic.
